the dangers of being deceived (page 10/11).
to deceive, says one dictionary, means to cause to accept as true or valid what is false or invalid.

Weird JW response to death?
by serenitynow! inso i just learned on another thread that there are adults who have never been to a funeral, not that that's a bad thing.
makes me wonder because i got dragged to one at 6, and i still remember how i felt, what song we sang- and who i was sitting next to (an adult, not my mother for some reason) who helped me to stand up to sing the song because i was so distraught.
is it a jw thing to make kids go to funerals?.

Sorry to hear of your past experiences with death as a jw.
When my Grandmother died 20 years ago, a sister pulled me up to the coffin (no, Grandma was not a jw, but several of the friends came to the funeral because they thought that she was "receptave" to the message.
She told me to look at the body, and then told me how this was just a shell, and she was dead,,,,, nothing there.
I felt like turning around and punching this sister right smack in the face.

Do you know (or are) a former JW elder/leader that became a pastor or leader in another Christian denomination?
by onemore inand...i wonder if other christian denominations see ex-jw as christians simply switching denomination.
do they validate the jw baptism... in another word, for example, will the baptists re-baptize an ex-jw who wants to join their church?
unomas.... .

What a great topic !
I never even thought that this would happen in the ex - jw world.
It seems that almost everytime I go on this site I'm able to peel off another layer off of the "JW onion".

Remain Close to the Governing Body DC
by gutted ini just finished all 3 days of the dc and, for what it's worth, wanted to get down some of the highlights i enjoyed.
i went with family and i only did it for them, and hope to never attend another assembly ever again.. .
the whole thing was pretty boring and uncomfortable due to the stadium style seating which doesn't favour my long legs and ac being blasted too high.. .

Yup...It´s a SELF SACRIFICING way of life. Everyone on this board doesn´t have it. They are ME ME ME!
Well thank you Bane for your very "insightful" comment
Since I left the jw religion I have increase my self sacrificing attitude toward helping people a thousandfold.
I have gotten involved in areas of helping others that I never dreamed of as a witness.(30 years)
My life was so self absobed, and literally hatefull toward people outside of the religion that it now makes me almost sick thinking about
how the jw faith focuses only on people WITHIN the organization,,,, if you remain outside you are garbage.
Your comment as usual really solidifies the reasons why I left,,, and thank you for pointing them out to me again .

WT advice about unbelieving mates or DF'ed family members
by OnTheWayOut inthis is a revival of an old thread: http://www.jwsupportforum.com/index.php?topic=8144.0;topicseen.
i revived it as i was looking for it to show to someone else.. it seems they wish they could legally kill people's own family members.
since they cannot, they encourage believing mates to prostitute themselves with the unbeliever- trade sex (marital due) for financial support.. here's the older wt article that reveals "their" attitude toward unbelieving or df'ed family members:.

I had to read that comment three times, and I'm just dumbfounded.
They literally put the thought in a followers head that killing a family member who no longer beieves their religion is worthy of death ?

Are you still programmed by the borg?
by asilentone inunfortunately, my answer is yes, it takes time to deprogram everything, probably never to the fullest.

Oh yea,
It seems to rise up when I least expect it.
For an example last week at work someone sneezed, and I was going to say God bless you. BUt that jw influence kicked in for some reason
and I kept silent.
But as time goes by I notice the borg loosing more and more.

How do you deal with shunning ?
by man in black inmy wife and i da'ed ourselves two years ago.
she left because she felt there was no forward momentum in the congregation.. me: because i really started to notice the lack of love and concern amoungst "true christians".
we have gotten to the point now where we will say hello to any jw's we run into, but the total avoidance thing is starting to get somewhat creepy to me.. example : my wife was in target several weeks ago, put her items on the belt and was getting ready to checkout.

My wife and I DA'ed ourselves two years ago. She left because she felt there was no forward momentum in the congregation.
me: because I really started to notice the lack of love and concern amoungst "true christians"
We have gotten to the point now where we will say hello to any jw's we run into, but the total avoidance thing is starting to get somewhat creepy to me.
Example : my wife was in target several weeks ago, put her items on the belt and was getting ready to checkout. Lo and behold a once-good friend jw gets in line behind her, evidently failing to notice that it was my wife "the one who left the truth" in front of her.
My wife turned around and smiled getting ready to say hello, well this witness suddenly focused her eyes and realized that an apostate was in front .
She (the witness) picked up all her items, put them back in the cart, and arrogantly strutted over to another line, completely avoiding any eye contact.
When my wife got home she commented on how ridiculous the whole scene was, but she felt pity because of the mind-conditioning that caused this lady to behave like that.
Several months earlier, I was at the hospital getting a blood test (so that I could allow my dog to be a Therapy Dog). And I passed an elder that I had known since 1975 with his wife. They both looked at me and quickly turned aside like I had leprosy.
The more time I am away from the jw mindset, the more I am amazed at their lack of human feeling, and natural affection. If I had become a murderer, or drug dealer I could possibly understand them. But for crying out loud, I personally am doing more to help people and assist them then I have ever done in my life. And these so called "religious people" have the audacity to look down because I dont believe the same things that they do.
Time is really showing me the absolute unnatural uncaring attitude the the jw religion fosters.
Anyway getting back on topic,, how do you deal with shunning ?
Do you reflect this belief back to them, possibly by avoidance when you see a witness at the store, or are you a "throw it in their face" type of
person. COmpletely forgetting the whole shunning thing, and treating them like normal people ?
I look forward to reading your comments !

Just curious...how do JW's who became Catholics deal with the corrupt history of the church?
by gubberningbody ini don't get it..

if you look at any religion's past, there are always a few skeletons in the closet. Catholic / Mormon / etc..
I feel that in the current time we live in, it's how the individual applies what the religion teaches to their own life.
Not all Catholics / Mormons / etc. are bad people, in fact some of the best ones I know do belong to one of these churches.
